The DeBlois Gallery brought an exciting new exhibit, "Street Art: In and Out" to Newport from August 2, 2008 through September 2, 2008. Over twenty-five two-dimensional and three-dimensional artists from Southern New England, New York and Baltimore participated in this show. Street Art, which aims to provoke and question social and political events of our time, is a contemporary art form that has become a massive global phenomenon. Utilizing many traditional artistic techniques such as painting, drawing, collage, stenciling and assemblage, street artists challenge widely held preconceptions with their work which is commonly found displayed on buildings and public structures. This artwork, like life itself, experiences an inevitable process of deterioration as it is exposed to the elements.
