An exciting blend of printmaking and ceramics
were featured in the exhibit entitled "Press and Kiln: Expressions in Ink
and Raku". The works of eight printmakers from the Newport Art Museum's
Coleman Center for the Arts were complimented by Raku artist Charlene
Carpenzano's sculptural creations. The show offered a glimpse into
the creative and varied world of printmaking. Techniques used range
from painterly monotypes to monoprints created by solar plates to
collage works which combine woodcuts, fiber, and other found objects.
Exhibiting printmakers include Kelley Albert, Mary Evans, Debbie
Kostisin-Talbot, Ginger Lacy, Brian Pitts, Margot Rubin, Robin Vallese
and Marion Wilner.
Charlene Carpenzano feels that "ceramics and
fire touch a primitive instinct that brings about a sense of community".
As she creates her artwork using the ancient Japanese firing technique
of Raku, she explores her "relationship between time, places, people,
cultures and rituals".
Celebrating
their 25th year, the DeBlois Gallery is a co-operative, non-profit
gallery which features contemporary artwork in a wide variety of
mediums. |
