Willye Roberts: A Retrospective

Printmaking / Painting / Mixed Media

Many artists dream of the possibility of a retrospective exhibit to present a body of their work which spans their professional artistic career. For master printmaker Willye Roberts, that possibility is now a reality. The DeBlois Gallery proudly hosts "Willye Roberts - A Retrospective" which will feature  selected works from the artist's private collection. Roberts is best known for her printmaking skills, but, in addition to her prints, exhibited work will also include her watercolors, etchings, silk screens and collage.

Although she currently resides in Oklahoma, Roberts actually began her artistic career in Rhode Island. Academic credit courses in four printmaking disciplines at Rhode Island School of Design led to a Fine Arts degree from the University of Rhode Island. She studied under numerous nationally known artists including painter Marion Carey. As a member of the Providence Art Club, she explored a wide variety of mediums and went on to teach extensively in Newport. During her career, this prolific artist has utilized her creative energy and passion to produce an impressive body of work and to garner many awards. Throughout the years, her work has maintained a delicate balance. As Roberts states, "I believe that a combination of technique and personal imagery is necessary to produce one's own statement... I like to create images that relate to my  visual world. These may vary in degrees of reality and abstraction, just as my perceptions move in space between these two extremes. My work seems to strive toward a resolution of this dichotomy."

The DeBlois Gallery was honored to offer this rare opportunity to view this extensive and impressive body of work.
