Ralph Bucci FSC tells us that the pieces in this show “focus on
extenuated forms and shapes and their silhouetted lines and
surface texture, both actual and visual. These intermingling
elements continue to evolve and inspire wonder for me and, I hope,
in the viewer, as we examine the pieces as bold monuments and as
remnant artifacts. The net effect is a sense of ambiguity and
wonder, where shape, color, and texture touch our collective
unconscious. The work reflects the strength of earthy materials
that form our human-made world.” Bucci wonders about their scale:
“are they miniature, monumental, artifactual?” He also wonders
about the purpose of their presence and how they affect our souls.
Elizabeth
Lamondy says that she is an artist who specializes in 2D, mixed
media wall sculptures. In the pieces displayed in this show, she
uses an array of different surfaces and materials that move and
mold areas of the sculpture; bringing forms to a more extravagant,
colorful, and bold line, now creating 3D effects. “I mix together
unique components I never thought I'd use in sculpting; producing
a texture and a movement that seems to capture and enchant my
audience, leaving an everlasting impression.”
Manjula
Padmanabhan is an artist, illustrator and author. “I like working
in a range of different media. For this show, I’ve chosen
ink-on-paper drawings that I’ve never exhibited before, though I
made them more than 20 years ago. Alongside them are very recent
mono prints made with soft lino blocks. I love experimenting with
lino block printing: combining small familiar shapes to make
larger and more complex images. Very satisfying.”
According to
Bill Reis, “My work is a collection of constructions that
incorporate sculptural elements and painted surfaces. The work
combines the application of mixed media and wood objects. I
assemble the shapes in concert with painted areas to create a
dynamic tension between opposing forces. I have been inspired
generally by architecture, archaeological elements and industrial
wear and tear.”
